Qtel Is Now Ooredoo

News broke out a few weeks ago that Qtel, the number 1 telecomunications company in Qatar is rebranding. It was confirmed that the new name would be Ooredoo. Nothing further happened until this morning when, on our way to work, lots of advertisements were seen on the road.

Street lights with banners saying "Something new is on the air.."

Both in english and arabic.

Pedestals of ads were everywhere..

Another statement goes like: "Something new is happening all around us"

Even roadside billboards were used.

The change is definitely now on it's full bloom.

Qtel is now Ooredoo. We know that rebranding is a way to boost sales and all that but why ooredoo? what does it mean? according to this, ooredoo is apparently arabic for "I want" and dohanews says that the round circles "Oo-oO" represents communities while the "red" means warmth, energy and youth. Clearly, this change aims at appealing to the youth. Well, does it work?

Anyhow, lucky for us loyal customers, an sms was sent this morning:

So, thanks for this change, I got me some half an hour free calls, anywhere! hooray!

Qatar peeps, are you a Qtel OoredoO subscriber or not? Does this change appeal to you or not?
